John the Baptist was preparing the people for the coming of Jesus. Moved by his preaching many sought baptism in the river Jordan. This ancient water-rite symbolised dying to the old way of life and rising to a new way of life.

During the recent Chapter meeting the Carmelites established a new ministry in Timor-Leste. The Carmelite Retreat and Youth Training Centre will offer retreats and programs in spirituality as well as training courses in English language, IT, Safeguarding, Care for the Environment, Fraud and Corruption Control, Children’s’ Rights and Press Freedom & Social Justice.

Albino Dos Santos was ordained to the priesthood and Marcolino Gomes to the deaconate in a moving ceremony on Saturday 12 November at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Middle Park (VIC).
This week Carmelites from Australia and Timor-Leste gathered in Melbourne for our triennial Chapter meeting. We were joined by the Prior General, Fr Miċeál O'Neill, who travelled from Rome to be with us.
