Happy Christmas from the Carmelites of Australia and Timor-Leste.

We began Advent with the cry, ‘Come, Lord Jesus’. Now we end it with the joyful shout, ‘God is with us!’

Congratulations to five of our brothers who graduated from the Institute of Philosophy of Saint Francis de Sales (Salesian Institute), Comoro Dili, Timor Leste, on 16 December.

We warmly welcome Fr Christian Marave to our Province. Fr Christian is a member of the Philippines Province of Carmelites and is on loan to us for the next few years. He will be part of our community and parish at Wentworthville (NSW).

The Carmelite Provincial Council has announced the appointment of new Parish Priests for Port Melbourne/Middle Park and Wentworthville parishes.

Fr Wayne Stanhope has taken up a new ministry in Pastoral Supervision in the Diocese of Wollongong. Pastoral Supervision is a service offered to those involved in ministry to reflect on their practice in order to gain a broader perspective and discover possibilities for personal and professional growth. Wayne recently completed a graduate diploma in pastoral supervision and will provide a sacramental presence for the Benedictine nuns and the local people at Jamberoo Abbey, NSW.

The great Christmas feast is almost here. As always in Advent, what is promised in the first reading is brought to fulfilment in the Gospel reading. We began Advent with the cry, ‘Come, Lord Jesus’. We will end it with the joyful shout, ‘God is with us!’

The joyful first reading from the prophet Isaiah proclaims that God is on his way to save his people. This coming brings healing and rejoicing and an end to sorrow and lament.
